General Information about

Western Resources Group

  • Q: Why do we have to separate our recycling, other places let you just put everything into one bin?

  • A: We are a multi-stream recycling center, the centers that allow you to place everything in one bin are single stream centers.

    • If you think of recycling like laundry this would be the difference:

Single-stream = tossing your laundry into one basket and hoping someone else sorts it later.
Multi-stream = you sort your socks, shirts, and pants as you go — so it’s cleaner and easier to reuse.

  • Q: Do you still sell eco-shred?

  • A: No. In short, it is too labor intensive to make it profitable in our facility.

  • Q: Why doesn’t my town have recycling?

  • A: We understand the importance of recycling. Please note that there is a cost associated with the delivery and pickup of recycling bins, which must be covered by each individual municipality. The township has opted not to fund this service. We encourage you to reach out to your local township officials if you would like to express your interest in participating in the program.

  • Q: Are all materials placed in your bins recycled?

  • A: Contaminated or improperly sorted recycling can be rejected and sent to landfills. Recycling only works if materials are clean and sorted correctly.

  • Q: Do you have machines that do the sorting at your facility?

  • A: No. All of the materials brought into Western Resources Group have to be sorted through good old man powered sorting. Our employees work hard to keep contaminated materials out of the end product. Your help in sorting your materials and making sure to rinse your plastics is greatly appreciated!

  • Q: Is recycling free?

  • A: In short, no. There are many costs associated with recycling. The communities that offer bins are paying for the transportation and sorting cost associated with those containers. We do not charge you to drop off at our facility. Keep Keith County Beautiful has funded some area bins as well. Businesses have a fee to keep cardboard bins at their locations as well. These fees cover the costs of pick up/ drop off, bin usage and sorting. For additional questions about community/business recycling, please give us a call or stop by our office.
